The first edition

Waves, wind and a delayed start.

The national FICK Ocean Racing event was scheduled for Saturday, 21 October. The first major storm of the autumn forced a twenty-four-hour delay, but Sunday delivered the right conditions for a technical and spectacular race.

The crews covered fifteen kilometres of open water on surfskis, sit-on-top sea kayaks designed for long distances. The start and finish were set up in the Bay of Fables, alongside technical stands and opportunities for visitors to discover the discipline.

Organised by Shock Wave Sports A.S.D. with support from the Sestri Levante branch of the Italian Naval League and the patronage of the Municipality, the event welcomed more than ninety crews from eleven Italian regions.

“A first edition we will hardly forget: the sun, waves and wind were on our side.”
Giovanni Saperdi, Shock Wave Sports A.S.D.
